CHARTER In June, 1993 the CWSF appointed a task force to research and propose the development of a Pacific Islands Committee. The task force completed its work and presented its findings to the CWSF at the annual meeting in 1994. The charter was approved as written May 25, 1994. This is the charter of the Western Pacific Islands Committee established by, and serving the Council of Western State Foresters. Mission and PurposeThe mission of the Pacific Island Committee is to aid the Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) and Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) in developing informed and unified approaches, which represent natural resource issues and forestry managers’ needs of the tropical forests of the United States (US) affiliated Pacific Islands. This approach insures that the CWSF redeems its responsibility to present a unified presence to CWSF, WFLC, Congress, and to the National Association of State Foresters (NASF) and the Washington Office of the USDA Forest Service on behalf of the Territories of Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and the State of Hawaii with their unique tropical forestry management issues. In addition, it provides a forum for technology transfer, training, and cultural information exchange with the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau.
